The Secretary of the CFMEU's Victorian and Tasmanian Construction & General division, John Setka, released the following statement on COVID-19 (aka coronavirus) on Tuesday March 25, 2020.
Given the inherent and acknowledged dangers and hazards working with engineered stone, the CFMEU instructs that all cutting and trimming of engineered stone be done off-site in a fully controlled environment.
In an incident at the Glen Shopping Centre in Victoria in June 2018, a JLG R1932R scissor lift dropped approximately 3 metres without notice while an air con plumber was working on it. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt on this occasion. This was not an isolated incident. The CFMEU advised members
CFMEU Members need to be aware of employers who may try to change your legal and certified EBA without the Union involved.
Members are advised to refuse to attend any meetings or to vote in any form – by hand, by SMS or postal vote – on variations to their EBA without the Union.
