In light of recent tragic events, we're reaching out to emphasise the importance of strict adherence to our OHS policies and procedures, specifically for tower crane operations.
The safety of our tower crane drivers and doggers is of utmost importance, and we strongly recommend immediate implementation of the following safety measures:

Emergency Preparedness: Ensure the implementation and annual testing of emergency plans specific to tower cranes for both medical and evacuation purposes, as per AS 3745 standards.

Notification of Crane Erection: Always notify emergency services upon the erection of a crane.

First Aid Readiness: Equip all crane cabins with defibrillators, bleed kits, and soft mats (yoga) to provide immediate response and assistance in case of an emergency.

First Aid Training: We encourage all members of tower crane crews to be trained in First Aid to enhance onsite safety and responsiveness.

Backup Operators: Ensure the presence of secondary drivers within all tower crane crews to maintain operational continuity.

Safe Access: Install personnel hoists on tower frames and spill kits on crane decks to manage fuel or other spills and prevent slipping hazards.

Egress Safety Enhancements: Utilize lighter weight trap doors and, where feasible, gas/hydraulic struts to facilitate safer and easier access.

Non-slip Measures: Apply non-slip surfaces on all egress/access routes and equipment to minimize the risk of falls and injuries.

Protective Gear: Mandate the use of climbing helmets for all individuals climbing the towers to prevent head injuries.

Hazard Assessment: Conduct thorough hazard/risk assessments with your teams and OHS representatives to identify and eliminate fire hazards in and around the tower crane base and nearby areas.

Regular Inspections: Perform regular inspections to ensure safe and unobstructed access to and from tower crane cabins.

Visual Contact: Ensure that the spotter/dogger maintains visual contact (line of sight) with the crane operator at all times during climbing and descending the tower.
