Turnbull Continues to Play Politics and Turn a Blind Eye to Corporate Corruption.
The revelations that multinational construction giant CIMIC/Leighton is being investigated by ASIC over corrupt payments underlines the urgent need for a federal corruption watchdog, according to CFMEU national construction secretary Dave Noonan.
CIMIC/Leighton have been accused of suppressing an internal report that exposed bribery and corruption within the corporation.
"It is outrageous that the Turnbull Government is persisting with the restoration of the anti Union ABCC – a policy advocated for by the big property developers and construction multinationals, including CIMIC/Leighton.”
This ABCC will continue to ignore widespread corruption amongst corporates in the industry, while prosecuting individual workers and unions who are striving for safe sites and decent wages and conditions," Noonan said.
“This is only the latest in a series of scandals involving corporate Australia, including the illegal payments to the Liberal Party from property developers exposed by NSW Corruption commission. Incredibly, Malcolm Turnbull, who is silent as the grave when it comes to corporate malfeasance continues to denigrate and smear working Australians and their unions.”
Australians, in particular hard working Tradies in the construction industry deserve to know why their Prime Minister wants to demonise their union and destroy their rights at work whilst sweeping corporate corruption under the carpet."
