A construction worker in his early 20s has suffered chest and head injuries after an incident at an Ironside/BPM Construction site in Fitzroy North.
The worker fell approximately 6.5 metres down a void into a basement car park at the site on the corner of Nicholson St and York St, Fitzroy North.
“MFB rescue workers told union officials the area was tampered with after the fall, before WorkSafe arrived to investigate,” said a CFMEU spokesperson.
“Malcolm Turnbull’s ABCC recently prosecuted the CFMEU for demanding women’s toilets on an Ironside/BPM site.”
“If the federal government worked with construction workers and their union instead of against us, we might begin to see a decrease in safety incidents and fatalities.”
“In February last year a 69 year old painter was killed after falling less than three metres on a Vcon job site. Ironside/BPM, the builder on the site of today’s incident, also resist union safety measures and this young worker is lucky to be alive.”
