Today is the 5th anniversary of the Swanston Street wall collapse that killed teenage siblings Alexander and Bridget Jones, of Melbourne, and Frenchwoman Marie-Faith Fiawoo, 33. Our hearts go out to the families today on what must be a very hard day.
"It is ironic that on the same day John Setka and Shaun Reardon are laying a wreath at the scene of the Swanston Street wall collapse, a tragedy that stole the lives of three innocent people and a tragedy that found Grocon guilty of criminal charges, the Government continues to pursue the two men for doing the job they were paid to do, and that’s saves live," said Dave Noonan, Secretary of the CFMEU Construction Division.
"Grocon paid a total fine of just $250,000 for the 3 deaths, that’s $83,000 per life. In contrast, the CFMEU has been fined in excess of $10 million in its efforts to make these sites safe."
"The CFMEU and indeed the entire union movement stand shoulder to shoulder with these two men in a system which is clearly broken."
