Published: 6 Sep 2021

Standards Australia has published a new Australian Standard for prefabricated concrete (Precast) in civil construction.

The new AS3850.3 imports OH&S requirements for precast manufacturing, storage, transport and erection on site for civil construction.

Proprietary lifting, handling and erection systems with appropriate engineering oversight are provided for and documentation (Shop drawings and manufacturing certificates) as required in building construction for many years are now a requirement to supply the civil sector.

The new standard also provides clear guidance in relation to:
• Site and erection planning processes
• The installation and inspection of temporary bracing and propping
• The fixing and grouting of structural elements and
• The process for the repair of or alteration to prefabricated elements.
